“We are delivering a more modern, safe and prepared airport to meet the growing demand for executive aviation and general aviation in Rio de Janeiro. This investment reinforces the Federal Government’s commitment to increasing the quality of airport infrastructure and attracting investments that boost economic development and tourism”, stated the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho.

The minister also highlighted that improving infrastructure in Jacarepaguá contributes to optimizing the airport system in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. “Strengthening strategic airports such as Jacarepaguá helps to better distribute air operations in the city, helping to alleviate demand at Santos Dumont Airport and increase the efficiency of the airport network”, he added.

Among the works carried out are the restoration of the landing and take-off runway, the recovery of the aircraft apron pavement, the modernization of lighting systems and vertical signaling, in addition to the implementation of runway end safety areas (RESA) and the replacement of PAPI systems.

Improvements were also made to the operational area and support infrastructure of the passenger terminal, with a new facade, renovation of internal areas and creation of a boulevard, in addition to the modernization of equipment and support structures.

“With the delivery of the works, we can say that Jacarepaguá Airport is ready to start a new chapter in its history. The modernization of the infrastructure prepared Jacarepaguá Airport for the arrival of IFR, that is, instrument navigation, which will make operations safer and more predictable”, says Rogério Prado, CEO of PAX Aeroportos.

The executive secretary of MPor, Tomé França, said it was a source of pride to see a project born and completed. “The work was delivered three months ahead of schedule, bringing forward investments and improving the quality of services for passengers and workers. Airport infrastructure boosts development, attracts new ventures and generates more opportunities for the region.”

The managing partner of XP Inc., Rafael Furlanetti, highlighted that the venture meets two strategic objectives: that of the Brazilian investor and that of the Brazilian user of the airport. According to him, Jacarepaguá Airport is relevant not only for offshore operations, but also for business mobility in the region. “An efficient airport boosts a series of new ventures, expands the range of services and generates more opportunities for the economy”, he declared.
