TAIPEI — A row over whether a Chinese national nominated to be a legislator should be exempted from a law requiring single nationality for public office holders has taken center stage in Taiwan’s politics, fueling the showdown between President Lai Ching-te’s administration and the opposition coalition that seeks closer ties with Beijing.
