Grimaldi Group has taken delivery of Grande Oriente, its 12th ammonia-ready pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), marking another step in the company’s fleet renewal and decarbonisation strategy.
Built by China Merchants Heavy Industries Jiangsuthe 220 m-long vessel has capacity for 9,000 ceu and is designed to transport both electric and conventionally powered vehicles.
She has received an Ammonia Ready notation from the Italian classification society RINA, allowing for future conversion to ammonia as a zero-carbon fuel.
Efficiency measures
It joins sister ships Grande Shanghai, Greater Sweden, Great Michigan and Great Englandand incorporates a range of efficiency measures that Grimaldi says reduce fuel consumption by 50 percent compared with earlier-generation car carriers.
Great East is scheduled to enter the Asia-Europe trade on her maiden voyage, departing Taicang, China, for Portbury, UK, carrying more than 6,200 cars and 700 linear metres of rolling cargo.
