Advantage Tankers adds suezmax pair at Samsung

Geneva-based Advantage Tankers has confirmed two suezmax newbuildings at Samsung Heavy Industries.

The Tugrul Tokgoz-led owner lists the 157,000 dwt crude tankers Advantage Spirit and Advantage Synergy as dual-fuel-ready units on its newbuilding page.

The vessels, costing $88.25m each, are scheduled for delivery in the first and second quarters of 2029.

Brokers said construction of the two ships is expected to be subcontracted to Samsung’s partner yard PaxOcean Zhoushan in China.

The latest order adds to Advantage’s fast-growing large crude tanker book, with the company continuing to add both VLCCs and suezmaxes across South Korean and Chinese yards.

Advantage already has the 319,000 dwt Advantage Visual under construction at Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The company also has two 320,000 dwt VLCCs, Advantage View and Advantage Vibebooked at Hanwha Ocean for delivery in 2027, and two 307,000 dwt VLCCs, Advantage Venture and Advantage Voyagerat Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co for delivery in 2028 and 2029.

On the suezmax side, Advantage’s orderbook now includes four 157,000 dwt vessels at DH Shipbuilding, with deliveries between 2027 and 2029, in addition to the latest Samsung pair.

Founded in 2014, the privately held company is controlled by Nazli Williams and has built up a fleet of close to 30 tankers. Its on-the-water fleet includes four 2022- and 2023-built VLCCs, a run of suezmaxes, aframax/LR2 tonnage and product tankers.

The latest Samsung order takes Advantage’s publicly listed newbuilding programme to 13 ships across VLCC and suezmax tonnage.
