Somalev tackles pair of industrial projects in Morocco

Moroccan heavy lift and logistics specialist Somalev Cranes & Logistics is nearing the completion of two industrial solid sulfur storage hall projects for the state-owned OCP Group.

Somaliv’s initial scope was to handle over 1,000 tonnes of precast concrete arches to heights of up to 30 m, at the 100-kt capacity M’Zinda solid sulfur hall. These are the largest versions of halls of this type ever planned in Morocco.

The second project has seen Somalev tackle two parallel 20-kt storage halls, with the company mobilising equipment and scheduling its operations across a single coordinated programme for both halls.

Concrete blocks, which weighed as much as 80 tonnes per piece, had to be transferred from casting positions to their final spots on the respective sites.

Somalev simultaneously mobilised two crawler cranes: a 750-tonne Liebherr LR 1750/2 SX and a 600-tonne Terex Demag CC 2800. The firm also deployed additional mobile cranes, mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) reaching over 42 m and Modulift spreader beams of capacities exceeding 250 tonnes.

For both projects, Somalev conducted dedicated engineering studies which included rigging design, crane configuration, stability analysis and sequencing.

HLPFI reported in October 2025 that Somalev had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Türkiye’s snakecentred on renewable energy and infrastructure projects across Northwest Africa and Southern Europe.
