IDEA Logistics transports gas turbine from Saudi Arabia to Türkiye

Istanbul-headquartered IDEA Logistics has transported a 160-tonne gas turbine and associated equipment from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to a project site in Türkiye.

The main turbine measured 21 m x 4.5 m x 5.35 m and weighed approximately 160 tonnes. It was moved on a hydraulic multi-axle trailer, with accessories transported in shipper-owned containers (SOCs) and on nine lowbed trailers.

Given congestion at alternative Saudi ports, the project cargo was routed via Yanbu portwhich required an overland journey of roughly 2,000 km from Riyadh. The overall transport height reached approximately 6.3 m, requiring the use of alternative roads and bypasses to avoid clearance restrictions and constrained sections. IDEA Logistics closely coordinated the road transport and the overall operation from departure through to port loading.

At Yanbu, the main turbine, SOC containers and the nine lowbed loads were loaded onto the same vessel for shipment to Haydarpasa port in Istanbul.

Following discharge at Haydarpaşa, the turbine’s transport height meant that no continuous road corridor was available to the final project site in Türkiye. As a result, the turbine was loaded onto a ferry while remaining on its hydraulic trailer and transported to a port closer to the client’s facility. From there, it continued on the same trailer configuration for final delivery.
