Konecranes has received an order from Aluminium Bahrain, one of the world’s largest aluminium smelters, to modernise five auxiliary cranes at its smelter complex in Bahrain.
The order was booked in January 2026, with equipment delivery planned for the end of 2026 and installation scheduled to begin in early 2027.
The modernisation programme covers the Casthouse and Mould Shop, where molten aluminium is processed into finished products and uninterrupted production is critical.
The five auxiliary cranes support daily production activities and material flows in these process-critical areas, making their reliability a priority for operational continuity.
The scope of work includes upgrading the hoist and trolley systems of all five cranes to a heavy-duty configuration. Konecranes will supply new heavy-duty trolley units with an M8 duty class rating alongside upgraded electrical systems.
The new configuration incorporates an additional electrical drum brake, providing an extra safety layer suited to high-duty applications characterised by frequent lifting cycles and continuous operation.
Imtiaz Ismail, Sales Manager for Industrial Services at Konecranes, described the upgrade as a means of improving reliability and supporting safe, continuous operations in one of Alba’s most demanding production environments.
The modernisation continues a longstanding relationship between the two companies, with Konecranes lifting equipment installed across multiple production areas at the Alba smelter.
