CONCOR-GAIL Tie-Up For LNG Station In Ahmedabad

Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) and GAIL (India) have signed a 15-year agreement to establish an LNG dispensing station at CONCOR’s Inland Container Depot in Khodiyar, Ahmedabad. The project is designed to support cleaner fuel adoption in India’s heavy-duty logistics sector and expand access to LNG refuelling infrastructure.

Roles of both companies

Under the agreement, GAIL will take charge of the station’s operations and invest in the retail LNG outlet infrastructure. CONCOR will provide around 3,000 square metres of land at its Ahmedabad terminal, along with utility connectivity required for the facility.

Push for cleaner logistics

The LNG dispensing station is part of a broader effort to reduce emissions in freight transport and encourage a shift toward cleaner commercial vehicle fuel options. CONCOR has also committed to deploying a dedicated fleet of 15 LNG-powered commercial vehicles from the first year of the contract to support the project’s viability.

Open to fleet and market users

The facility is expected to operate round the clock and serve both CONCOR’s logistics fleet and commercial vehicles from the open market. That makes it a dual-use infrastructure asset that could support wider adoption of LNG in the transport and logistics ecosystem.

Wider significance

The tie-up reflects growing interest in alternative fuels for India’s logistics network, especially at major freight hubs such as Ahmedabad. If successful, the model could encourage more partnerships between public sector logistics operators and energy companies to build cleaner fuel infrastructure across the country.
