Hong Kong-listed Seacon Shipping has returned to Tsuneishi Group’s Chinese shipyard for two bulk carrier newbuildings worth $66m.
The Qingdao-based owner will pay $33m per ship, with one vessel scheduled for completion in 2028 and the second in 2030. The filing lists the pair at around 26,700 gt each – equivalent to the yard’s 42,200 dwt handysize Tess42.
The ships will be built at Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding, a Chinese yard owned 66% by Japan’s Tsuneishi Shipbuilding and 34% by Singapore-listed Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.
Seacon also ordered at the yard in April 2025, paying $38.34m for a 63,300 dwt ultramax scheduled for delivery in April 2027.
The latest contract adds to one of shipping’s larger newbuilding pipelines. Seacon’s 2025 annual report listed 44 vessels under construction at the end of last year, including 22 bulk carriers. The company controlled 36 vessels and held investments in another 12 ships at the time.
Seacon also agreed on Monday to sell the 2023-built bulker Seacon Tokyo for $41.6m. The transaction is expected to generate a gain of about $9.86m, with the proceeds earmarked for new vessel acquisitions and general working capital.
The group has been active across several vessel segments over the year. It recently acquired two chemical tanker newbuildings for $39.2m, took over four multipurpose ship contracts in a $44.4m deal, added six ultramax resales worth $198.6m and moved into newcastlemax newbuildings with a pair at Qingdao Beihai.
