Maersk increases emergency contingency surcharge to West Coast Latin America

Munich Maersk

Maersk has announced higher Emergency Contingency Surcharges (ECS) for shipments from the Indian Subcontinent to the West Coast of Latin America, the Caribbean and Central America.

The revised ECS will apply to cargo originating from North West India and Pakistan, South and East India, and Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

For cargo destined to the West Coast of South America, the Caribbean and Central America (excluding Puerto Rico and Colombia), the new surcharge will take effect on 25 July 2026. For shipments to Puerto Rico and Colombia, the revised ECS will apply from 4 August 2026.

Depending on the origin and container type, the surcharge ranges from US$2,650 to US$4,550 per container. The revised rates apply to dry, reefer, out-of-gauge (OOG), shipper-owned (SOC) and non-operating reefer (NOR) containers.

Maersk said the surcharge adjustments remain subject to any required regulatory approvals and applicable notice periods.
