Qatar Airways reportedly begins freighter flights to Tbilisi

Qatar Airways Cargo has reportedly operated its first scheduled freighter flight to Tbilisi, Georgia.

The airline will operate one weekly round-trip service on a Doha–Yerevan–Tbilisi–Doha route using Boeing 777 freighters, according to News Georgia.

Qatar Airways was granted a permit by the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency, according to the country’s Ministry of Economy.

However, Qatar Airways told Air Cargo News it was unable to comment on the reported new route at this point in time.

Previously, Qatar Airways Cargo announced cargo flights to Tbilisi as far back as 2013, when an Airbus A330 freighter was planned to serve the city once weekly.

In May, Qatar Airways Cargo announced it would increase its offered cargo capacity by 12% through new freighter destinations and belly space on increased passenger flights.

Destinations on the Europe-Asia border that Qatar will focus more closely on include Istanbul. Weekly flights to Istanbul have increased from 14 to 17. This is in addition to two existing weekly freighter flights from Istanbul.

Total bellyhold cargo capacity per week, each way is 190 tonnes. Total freighter capacity is 200 tonnes each week from Istanbul only.

According to the Georgia’s Ministry, in 2025, the volume of air cargo in Georgia amounted to 38,578 tons, an all-time high for the country’s airports.
