The administration of the Suape Industrial Port Complex (PE) announced, this Thursday (5), that it plans to reach the use of 50% of clean energy in its activities in the first half of 2026, through the incorporation of renewable sources into its electrical matrix. According to the port authority, 35.95% of the energy used by the complex already comes from renewable sources, as part of a plan to reduce emissions and prepare local infrastructure for the low-carbon economy.

According to the project’s management, renewable energy supplies high-demand areas of the complex, such as the administrative center, piers 1, 4 and 5, the Public Vehicle Yard (photo) and the port authority building. Annual consumption in these units is approximately 1.46 GWh per year, equivalent to the monthly consumption of around 7,300 popular homes, with average consumption of up to 200 kWh.
The port authority reported that, in addition to expanding the use of clean energy sources, it is investing in technological solutions to optimize energy use and cited Pier 5 and the vehicle yard as examples, in which an intelligent lighting system automatically adjusts the intensity according to operational needs. As a result, the estimated energy savings in the areas reach 60% of consumption compared to conventional systems.
Another project aimed at using clean energy and reducing emissions is the use of 100% solar energy at the Suape Forest Nursery, which has the capacity to produce around 450,000 seedlings per year. Furthermore, according to the port authority, of the 17.3 thousand hectares of the total area of the Suape Industrial Port Complex, 59% are in the Ecological Preservation Zone (ZPEC).
