MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company will introduce a Saint-Laurent Low Water (SLW) surcharge on cargo moving to or via Montreal, Canada, citing reduced water levels on the St. Lawrence River.
The surcharge will apply to shipments from West Mediterranean, the Adriatic, Israel and Northern Europe, including the UK and the Scan Baltic region, effective from 21 July 2026 until further notice.
MSC said lower water levels are significantly reducing the cargo capacity of vessels operating on the trade.
The SLW surcharge has been set at US$150 per 20-foot container and US$300 per 40-foot and 45-foot containers.
