Key Aspects:
- MSC Cruises is introducing a remote check-in option on Seattle sailings but only for guests with cruise line airport transfers.
- Guests will complete their cruise check-in at the airport and can go straight to security screening at the cruise terminal.
- The cruise line plans to expand the service to other homeports, transfer services, and hotels but no dates are announced.
Guests setting sail for the Last Frontier aboard MSC Poetry this summer have a new tool to streamline their check-in process in Seattle and embark the 92,627-gross-ton ship even sooner.
MSC Cruises has introduced a Digital Remote Check-In option for Seattlepermitting guests to bypass document verification and other questions at the cruise terminal and head directly to security. The option is not available to all guests, however.
Only guests who are using MSC Cruises’ official airport transfers from Seattle Tacoma International Airport (SEA) can take advantage of the option. Travelers do still have to check in, they just do so at the airport rather than the cruise terminal.
With the pre-cruise check-in taken care of at the airport, once guests complete their transfer and arrive at the cruise port, they will not need to do document verification or answer other questions. Instead, they can go to the security screening and boarding, getting right to the cruise vacation without delay.
This can eliminate lines and allow guests to jumpstart their cruise smoothly and seamlessly.
At the moment, the Digital Remote Check-In is only available for cruises from Seattle.
Cruise Hive has previously reported on MSC Cruises’ first-ever Alaska season featuring the 2,550-guest ship. MSC Poetry is offering 7-night roundtrip sailings through and including her September 21, 2026 departure. Each sailing visits ports such as Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Juneau, and Victoria, as well as featuring scenic glacier cruising.
Following the ship’s final Alaska sailing, her September 28 Seattle departure is a 19-night repositioning cruise to Miami. This special cruise will visit ports in California, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama (including a full canal transit), and Colombia before arriving in the Sunshine State on October 17 to begin her winter Caribbean season.
Plans to Expand Digital Remote Check-In
While currently only MSC Poetry is offering the airport-based check-in option and only in Seattle, MSC Cruises has confirmed plans to expand the service to additional locations.
“This innovative solution will be also extended to general airport arrivals, hotels and other selected locations where guests begin their journey,” the cruise line said in a release. “Following the successful launch in Seattle, MSC Cruises plans to progressively roll out Digital Remote Check-In across additional ports throughout its global network.”
There is no indication of where or when the process may be available at other homeports or transfer points.
Wherever Digital Remote Check-In is introduced, the process is sure to smooth out embarkation and allow guests to board their ships more efficiently.

MSC Poetry is currently one of the smaller ships in the MSC Cruises fleet, making it a perfect test subject for this new process. If the option works well, it could be rolled out to larger ships, including the World-class ships, MSC World America and MSC World Europathat each welcome more than 6,700 guests per sailing.
In comparison, the World-class ships are more than twice the size of the Musica-class MSC Poetryboth by gross tonnage and guest capacity.
MSC World America is homeported from Miami, while MSC World Europa is currently homeported in the Mediterranean, offering departures from several key cities including Barcelona, Naples, and Marseille.
Two more World-class ships are scheduled to debut over the next 18 months. MSC World Asia will debut in the Mediterranean in December 2026, while MSC World Atlantic will join the fleet in late 2027 with sailings from Port Canaveral.
On those larger vessels, any option that reduces crowds, speeds check-in, and lets guests get to the fun of their vacation more quickly is sure to be welcome.
