OneSubsea, a joint venture backed by SLB, Aker Solutions and Subsea7, has secured a contract which it says is one of the largest umbilical contracts awarded in the industry to date, for a field development project in Indonesian waters.
The contract, awarded by Eni North Ganal Limited, a subsidiary of Searah Limited, a joint venture company between Eni and Petronas, will see OneSubsea deliver a steel tube umbilical system for the Kutei North Hub field development project offshore East Kalimantan.
The company will engineer, procure and manufacture 94.6 kilometers of umbilical for water depths of up to 2,200 meters. With a total system weight of approximately 6,700 tons and a design pressure of 10,000 psi, the project is described as one of the largest umbilical contracts awarded in the industry to date.
“Operators are looking for partners who can help them move projects forward with confidence,” said Mads HjelmelandChief Executive Officer of SLB OneSubsea. “This award demonstrates how we combine technical expertise with innovative manufacturing capabilities to support efficient project execution and accelerated delivery, while maintaining the reliability and performance required for demanding deepwater developments.”
OneSubsea reported it would combine its Oscilay and planetary production lines for the project, thereby increasing production efficiency and significantly reducing delivery timelines compared with conventional single-line methods.
The project also includes the production of a single continuous umbilical length of 30 kilometers, weighing approximately 2,100 tons, requiring specialized large-scale carousel capacity for manufacturing and storage.
The Kutei North Hub development entails drilling 16 producing wells at water depths between 1,700 and 2,000 meters and the installation of subsea systems linked to a newly built FPSO capable of processing over 1 billion standard cubic feet per day of gas and 90,000 barrels per day (bpd) of condensate, with a storage capacity of 1.4 million barrels.
Italy’s engineering, drilling, and construction services giant Saipem recently won a $2 billion assignment related to the FPSO unit destined for the project.
