NIIGATA, Japan — Along the Sea of Japan a couple of hours northwest of Tokyo by shinkansen train lies Niigata prefecture. There in the city of Myoko stands Mount Myoko, where a domestic skiing boom once fueled tourism to the area. Domestic businesses are taking another look at the ski resort area, with the recent increase in foreign visitors encouraging openings of accommodations in the area, spurred on by foreign capital.
