Khorfakkan port operator Gulftainer and Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) have signed an agreement to expand aluminium exports through the UAE’s East Coast, in response to current challenges impacting the reliability and security of cargo flows through Gulf Coast ports.
EGA has agreed to route up to 250,000 tonnes of aluminium via Khorfakkan in the first year, increasing to up to 300,000 tonnes in the second year. Volumes could increase further in subsequent years, the two partners state.
Gulftainer says it will invest in the necessary equipment and facilities to further develop Khorfakkan port’s capabilities to accommodate EGA’s requirements.
According to Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of EGA, “We have already made considerable progress diversifying our outbound logistics to ensure reliable deliveries. This agreement with Gulftainer is another important step forward.”
