Amazon to Equip 5K Delivery Drivers With Smart Glasses

Amazon says that no third parties will ever process or review images from the glasses, which are optional for all drivers.

Amazon is planning to equip thousands of its delivery drivers with smart glasses, which will display navigation, package details and customer instructions in real time.

According to an October 23 release, Amazon will deploy 5,000 smart delivery glasses this year, with a goal to expand to more than 20,000 by the end of 2027. The glasses will guide drivers through every step of the delivery process, starting the moment they park their van.

From that moment, a small display on the inside of the glasses will activate automatically, showing the number of packages associated with a specific stop, and confirming each one as it's taken out of the van using a barcode on the label. While the driver walks to the delivery address, the glasses will provide details on any necessary gate codes, access instructions or preferred drop-off spots. The glasses will also be able to alert drivers to the presence of a pet, or provide a warning if a package is being left at a location that doesn't match the delivery address.

More than 300 delivery service partners working with Amazon have been trialing the glasses since 2025. Since the first prototype, the company has made hundreds of updates to the software and hardware based on feedback from drivers.
