On 16 October 2026 Dutch inland shipping company AMS Barging officially welcomed a new addition to its fleet with the christening of the diesel-electric tanker Felicitas at Noordereiland in Rotterdam.
The naming ceremony was carried out by Liv and Julie, daughters of AMS Barging co-owner Igor Jansen. The 135-metre vessel was designed by RensenDriessen Shipbuilding and fitted out by Den Breejen Shipyard.
With a cargo capacity of around 9,000 cubic metres, Felicitas is equipped with 12 cargo tanks, a dual piping system, two mass flow meters, a nitrogen generator, a bunker boom and cargo pumps capable of handling 1,800 cubic metres per hour. Significantly, the tanker has been designed to allow future conversion for methanol bunkering operations.
The arrival of Felicitas increases the AMS Barging fleet to 17 vessels and follows the introduction earlier this year of the sister ship Fortuna. The company says changing geopolitical conditions and the ongoing energy transition are reshaping demand within the bunker market, prompting investment in vessels capable of transporting both conventional fuels and emerging alternative fuels.
