Rates for shipping containers from east Asia and China to the US were largely stable this week while rates for liquid chemical tankers ex-US Gulf were steady to higher.

Rates to the West Coast edged higher on the low end and are between $7,540-8,340/FEU (40-foot equivalent unit) while rates to the East Coast fell slightly on the low end and are between $9,300-11,500/FEU, remaining near the highest since mid-2022 for both routes.

Rates from supply chain advisors Drewry were flat from Shanghai to Los Angeles and fell by 3% from Shanghai to New York, as shown in the following graph.

Drewry said congestion at Chinese ports has begun to ease with average vessel waiting times at Shanghai improving to 35 hours last week as weather conditions improved and demand softened.
