The International Maritime Organization (IMO), the UN agency for shipping, said that no fewer than 25 seafarers have lost their lives around the Strait of Hormuz since the US-Iran war started on February 28.

The figure was revealed after the IMO Council, which has 40 member states, ended its five-day meeting on November 6, 2026.

Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez said that seafarers are still being killed and seriously injured, while others are abandoned and kept away from their homes.

The most recent death was of a crew member on the tanker Velos Sapphire that came under attack on November 5, as per reports.
