Ten crew members were rescued after a Tanzanian-flagged cargo ship sank about 90 nautical miles west of Paphos.
Cyprus authorities coordinated an operation to rescue the crew members after the vessel sank within the Republic of Cyprus’ search and rescue region on the evening of October 30. They identified the merchant ship as AS Dream. The JRCC launched a rescue operation, urging a helicopter and a police vessel to be dispatched to the area. A nearby Panama-flagged merchant ship, the MSC Hannah III, was also called to assist.
Cyprus’s Joint Rescue Coordination Centre received an alert at 20:15, triggering a search and rescue operation under the Nearchos plan, the Cyprus Mail reports.
The crew comprised nine Indian nationals and one Cameroonian. Under JRCC Larnaca’s coordination, they were initially brought safely to the police launch Pentadaktylos. They were eventually taken to Limassol port.
