Carrier Transicold adds another CA option

Carrier Transicold Introduces SimplyFRESH, a more cost-effective option for controlling the atmosphere in reefer containers on shorter cargo voyages.

SimplyFRESH is a passive controlled atmosphere system. It joins the Carrier range of CA systems alongside ExtendFRESH, which Carrier calls a “modified atmosphere” system, and the EverFRESH Active CA system.

Both Carrier Transicold’s ExtendFRESH and EverFRESH systems additional components in the refrigeration system. ExtendFRESH features a carbon scrubber that captures both CO2 and nitrogen, while EverFRESH use an air compressor and a nitrogen membrane to actively control nitrogen and oxygen levels.

By contrast SimplyFRESH is a passive CA system, which means it has no system components to change the composition of air introduced into the container. “Sensors continuously monitor CO2 and oxygen (O2) inside the container. Operators set a CO2 setpoint between 1% and 19%. When CO2 rises above the selected range, the system introduces outside air through the fresh-air valve and releases excess pressure, maintaining CO2 levels within ±0.2% of the setpoint,” Carrier said.
