As of October 23, the latest SMM statistics show that total iron ore inventory across 35 main ports in China stood at 147.75 million mt, down 750,000 mt MoM, with overall inventory edging down and daily average port pick-up volume edging up 25,000 mt to 3.21 million mt.

Port arrivals fell notably MoM this period, while hot metal production of steel mill blast furnaces on the demand side rebounded slightly. Amid a phased supply-demand mismatch, port inventory showed a modest drawdown. Looking ahead to next week, as port arrivals gradually return to normal levels and hot metal production is expected to see little change, port inventory may shift back to accumulation. Attention should be paid to the pace of port arrivals and changes in steel mill production. Source: SMM
