CMA CGM has launched its first dedicated block train service between the Port of Mombasa and the Nairobi-Embakasi Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Kenya. The new connection aims to strengthen container transport between the country’s main seaport and its inland markets.
The service began on 28 October 2026 and operates with 54 wagons, offering capacity for 108 TEUs per train. Initially, CMA CGM will run one train per week, carrying imported containers from Mombasa to Nairobi.
The shipping company developed the service in partnership with the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC). The initiative forms part of CMA CGM’s efforts to expand its inland logistics network across East Africa.
The new rail service connects Mombasa with Nairobi’s Embakasi ICD, supporting the movement of imported goods into Kenya’s main inland economic centre.
