The Liberian-flagged containership Contship Jet has sunk in the Black Sea after being struck by three maritime drones off the Bulgarian coast on 28 October, with all 18 crew members successfully rescued, according to Bulgarian authorities.
The sinking was confirmed on 29 October by the Varna Regional Administration, citing information from maritime traffic control and the Bulgarian Maritime Administration. The vessel was travelling from Haifa, Israel, to Constanța, Romania, carrying 421 containers when the attack occurred near Cape Kaliakra.
According to the Bulgarian Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Constanța received notification of the attack at 12:01 local time on 28 October, approximately 17 nautical miles east of Cape Kaliakra.
The crew abandoned the vessel at 12:13, prompting an immediate search-and-rescue operation involving three Bulgarian Navy vessels and a Border Police vessel. Eight seafarers were taken aboard a naval craft, while the remaining ten were rescued from the ship’s lifeboat.
