In late September 2026, in Paris and with President Bola Tinubu looking on, DP World signed two MoUs with the Ogun State Government and Ogun Deep Sea Port Company to explore a greenfield deep-sea port and special economic zone. The headline numbers are large: more than US$7 billion of initial investment and over 50,000 direct jobs, according to Arise.
The Gateway Deep Sea Port is pencilled in for Ogun Waterside with a four-kilometre quay and 18 metres of draught, per Dredgewire. Behind it sits the 10,000-hectare Blue Marine Special Economic Zone. Ogun openly pitches it as a Nigerian Jebel Ali.
Note, however, the wording. These are MoUs to explore. Nothing binds DP World to pour a single tonne of concrete.
