North Atlantic carriers Eimskip and Royal Arctic Line (RAL) have expanded their fleets with new Star Cool 1.1 refrigeration units from Maersk Container Industry (MCI).
Iceland-headquartered shipping and logistics company Eimskip has placed an order with MCI for 300 new Star Cool 1.1 Units. In Greenland, state-owned Royal Arctic Line A/S (RAL) has recently added 100 Star Cool 1.1 units to its fleet.
Both companies operate in the North Atlantic region, which MCI says presents unique challenges. “Harsh weather conditions and remote destinations place high demands on both equipment and operators. For companies operating in these environments, reliability and efficiency are essential”. Furthermore, both companies “share a common focus on dependable cold chain performance and long-term operational value.”
Eimskip’s reefer fleet numbers close to 4,000 containers, and the 300 new reefers are part of its fleet renewal strategy. For Edwin de Roos, manager M&R containers at Eimskip, the decision to purchase Star Cool 1.1 was driven by a combination of energy efficiency, operational continuity, and future flexibility in the refrigerant. “Spare part compatibility between Star Cool 1.0 and Star Cool 1.1 was an important factor for us, together with the energy efficiency improvements and the possibility to move to R1234yf in the future if required,” he said.
