An Etihad Airways Boeing 787-9 crossed an active runway at Boston Logan International Airport without clearance, forcing an approaching Delta Connection flight to abandon its landing and execute a go-around. The incident occurred on 15 October 2026 and came to light after recordings of air traffic control communications were published online.
Etihad flight EY7 had arrived from Abu Dhabi and was taxiing towards the terminal when the crew was instructed to use taxiways R and N and hold short of runway 4L. The pilots read back the instruction correctly but continued across the runway, according to recordings and subsequent reconstructions of the incident. <Cite refs={[“turn808730search1″,”turn808730search3”]}/>
The tower controller ordered the Etihad aircraft to stop and instructed the approaching Republic Airways Embraer E175, operating as Delta Connection flight DL5739, to go around. The regional jet subsequently made another approach and landed safely.
No collision was reported. The incident has raised questions about runway-crossing procedures and cockpit situational awareness, although the reason the Etihad aircraft continued across the runway has not been established publicly.
