European equities inched higher on Thursday ahead of the European Central Bank’s interest rate announcement, following a cloudy policy signal from the Federal Reserve, divergent mega-cap tech earnings, and a dense slate of corporate releases.
Market participants held back ahead of ECB President Christine Lagarde’s press conference, a critical U.S. inflation print, and post-close earnings from Amazon and Intel.
The STOXX 600 index rose 0.4%, while Germany’s DAX rose 0.7%. France’s CAC 40 was 0.8% higher, and London’s FTSE 100 was up 0.2%
ECB’s Governing Council is widely projected to maintain its deposit facility rate at 2.50%. The anticipated hold follows rate hikes delivered in June and September to counter energy supply shocks.
