A two-month extension of the Section 301 suspension shows US shipbuilding policy becoming a bargaining chip, while Beijing keeps its own levers live.

On 23 October, the US Trade Representative proposed extending the suspension of port fees on Chinese-owned, Chinese-operated and Chinese-built vessels until 9 January 2027.
