French heavy lift airship developer Flying Whales’ Logilift project is set to receive EUR40 million (USD44.5 million) after being selected by the EU’s Innovation Fund.

Part of a rigorous and selective appraisal process, only 77 of 358 projects were selected – one of which being Flying Whales’ Logilift project.

Flying Whales claims that the support from the EU’s Innovation Fund will allow the company to speed up its development, industrialisation and prepare for the commercial deployment of the LCA60T aircraft in Europe. With commercial operations expected to begin in 2029, the LCA60T will measure 200 m in length, 50 m in diameter and will have a maximum lifting capacity of 60 tonnes.

Backed by European and national climate and industrial funding initiatives, Logilift is an industrial and commercialisation project designed to finalise development, certification and manufacturing ramp-up of the LCA60T.
