Green ammonia has been transferred to an ammonia-powered dry bulk carrier at the Port of Port Hedland, a first for Australia and a significant step toward low-emission shipping.

The 300-metre Mineral Europa, described as the world’s first ammonia-powered dry bulk vessel, received certified green ammonia from a bunker vessel before entering port to load iron ore.

The ship is on charter to Fortescue and will carry its iron ore to customers in China.

The transfer took two hours and was confirmed successful at 8.42am AWST on Monday 2 November 2026.
