A new rail connection between Haparanda and the Port of Gothenburg will launch on 5 November, giving Finnish and northern Swedish industry a way to consolidate cargo in Haparanda before onward transport to global markets.
For cargo moving from Oulu to Asia, the solution is expected to cut transit time by eight days compared with traditional transport routes.
Haparanda’s position on the Swedish-Finnish border makes it well suited to gathering cargo from both countries, and the stated ambition is to develop it into a cross-border logistics hub with a direct rail link to Gothenburg.
Through APM Terminals Gothenburg, the service connects into international shipping networks, including direct links to Asia.
