India has joined the ISF Verify initiative, marking a significant step towards the wider adoption of digital seafarer certification across the global shipping industry.
India supplies approximately 312,000 seafarers, making it the world’s second-largest seafarer supply country, according to the ICS/BIMCO Seafarer Workforce Report 2026.
Together with the Philippines, which previously participated in the initiative, the two countries account for approximately 30% of the global seafarer workforce of 2.57 million.
However, this figure represents the workforce covered by the participating countries, rather than the number of seafarers already using the platform.
