Indian Customs and the Port of Rotterdam are discussing digital upgrades to Indian port processes to speed up cargo evacuation and reduce vessel turnaround times, said Piyush Goyal, Minister for Commerce and Industry, GoI. The announcement came after the minister’s meeting with Boudewijn Siemons, Chief Executive, Rotterdam. Goyal informed that India’s port capacity had doubled over the past decade but would need double twice more by 2047 to support economic growth and trade. The discussions come as India and the EU move towards a FTA, which could create additional trade flows.
