Three hundred guests were in attendance at Kalmar’s facility in Ljungby, Sweden, in September to see the opening of a new automated Test Centre at Kalmar’s global hub for research, development and testing of heavy-duty lift trucks.

The new automated test centre is a significant step forward for Kalmar and its customers. For an equipment OEM like Kalmar, the process of designing, developing and performing product tests is central to delivering machines that meet regulatory requirements, customer expectations and Kalmar’s own business goals.

This is particularly important in the cargo handling industry, which sources engines, transmissions, batteries and other components from industrial suppliers that were designed for applications across much larger markets. Port applications in particular have a very different duty cycle from other industries.

The new Test Centre puts Kalmar in greater control of the testing and validation processes for end user applications. In an interview with WorldCargo News, Henrik Wanfors, head of process, support and testing, Kalmar, explained that the facility is equipped with advanced testing equipment, including wheel hub-based dynamometers that allow drive axles to turn while the machine is stationary.
