A still image from handout video released on September 15, 2026, said to show a damaged Panamanian-flagged oil tanker "El Gaia" following an incident in Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Revolutionary Guard said the tanker was hit by sea mines as it passed through a prohibited zone south of the Strait of Hormuz, a claim the U.S. military disputed, saying the vessel was struck by an Iranian missile "last month and rendered inoperable." DUBAI, Oct 30 (Reuters) – Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Navy said on Friday that four oil tankers had caught fire and exploded in the Strait of Hormuz, while attempting to use what it described as unauthorised routes, Iranian state media reported.

In its latest statement, the IRGC Navy said a fourth vessel, a tanker carrying more than 2 million barrels of crude oil, had hit a mine, suffered a powerful explosion and was burning.

An IRGC Navy statement had said earlier that one of the tankers, which was also carrying 2 million barrels of crude oil, had hit a naval mine.
