Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport) has been awarded a USD40 million grant through the US Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD).

The grant put towards modernising Berth 32 at Blount Island. The project will rebuild approximately 900 ft (274 m) of berth, increase its load-bearing capacity and upgrade infrastructure supporting cargo operations.

The award is part of nearly USD500 million allocated for 35 port projects across 19 states.

Sean Duffy, US Department of Transportation secretary, said: “The strength of our nation’s economy is directly tied to the state of our ports.”
