INDIA: Jupiter Wagons Ltd and Poland’s Pesa Bydgoszcz have signed a memorandum of understanding covering technology transfer and the potential joint production of locomotives and passenger vehicles. The non-binding MoU signed during the Poland-India Economic Forum in New Delhi covers co-operation in three key areas:
JWL said the passenger rail section in India is ‘in the midst of a transformation’ which is creating sustained demand for modern and efficient passenger rolling stock as the country’s first high speed rail corridor takes shape, inter-city services are enhanced and metro networks expand.
It said the MoU marks the next step in its evolution from a wagon manufacturer to a future-ready freight and passenger rolling stock and component supplier. This would be underpinned by its ability to offer manufacturing scale, integrated capabilities across rolling stock, components, castings and wheelsets, and a track record of supplying both Indian Railways and private customers.
‘Indian rail is entering a decisive decade, and the companies that lead it will be those that offer complete solutions rather than individual products’, said JWL Managing Director Vivek Lohia on October 23. ‘That is the direction in which JWL has been building. From wagons and components to castings, wheelsets and allied systems, we are bringing more of the mobility value chain under one umbrella than ever before, and passenger rolling stock is the natural next layer.’
