Latakia International Container Terminal (LICT) in Syria has received six fifth-generation rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes as part of its ongoing modernisation programme under its partnership with French shipping group CMA CGM.
The delivery was confirmed on 21 October by Mazen Alloush, Director of International Relations and Cooperation at Syria’s General Authority for Borders and Customs. The new equipment is intended to strengthen container-handling capabilities, improve yard operations and support the terminal’s infrastructure development programme.
According to the authority, the cranes incorporate advanced operating technologies designed to improve container stacking and storage, increase the efficiency of yard operations and make better use of available terminal space.
The six RTG cranes are expected to improve container-handling efficiency at LICT by supporting more organised stacking and storage operations. The authority also expects the equipment to accelerate cargo movements and reduce truck waiting times, contributing to smoother logistics operations within the terminal.
