Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd have announced plans to reroute their Gemini Cooperation Indian Ocean Service (IOS) through the Red Sea, moving away from the longer route around the Cape of Good Hope.

The decision follows a review of the current security situation in the region. According to Hapag-Lloyd, the change aims to provide faster connections between Europe and the Middle East.

The revised routing will begin with selected sailings in November 2026, subject to operational conditions.

The first scheduled westbound sailing under the revised arrangement will involve Atlanta Express, voyage 644W. The vessel is expected to depart Salalah on 4 November 2026.
