Can trucking’s standard seven-way connector handle more cameras and trailer data? Grote’s Adam Slade shows HDT how the company is using new technology with its 4See trailer system, not only to add a new backup camera but also to expand other capabilities — without adding another connection.

Backing cameras can help drivers see behind the trailer. Getting that video to the cab, however, can mean wireless pairing or another cable to connect and maintain.

Grote Industries is taking a different approach with its next-generation 4See rear-view camera, using new data-transfer technology to carry video through the standard J560 seven-way connection.

At the American Trucking Associations’ 2026 Management Conference & Exhibition, Grote’s Adam Slade showed HDT’s Deborah Lockridge how it works. He explained why the company believes the existing connection has room for substantially more data, including multiple camera feeds and information about tire and lighting conditions.
