Nanny Cay’s breakwater for the new 112-slip South Marina has now reached its full 1,430-foot (435 m) length. According to Nanny Cay, work on the breakwater will now continue with the installation of four flushing culverts and the placement of armor rock on top of and inside the existing access road used by trucks and excavators.
The new entrance channel to Nanny Cay will be almost at a 90° angle to the old entrance, running parallel to the Tortola shore. This requires limited dredging to create the new channel.
To undertake the dredging work, a temporary causeway has been laid from the Tortola side of Nanny Cay. This allows access for a large excavator to dredge to a 14 foot depth.
The dredged material will be removed and used to create additional land that is required inside the new marina and for the boatyard reclamation.
