Enova is awarding NOK 3.94 billion (around EUR 381 million) in funding to Fortius Offshore Wind and Fram Wind Solutions for projects that will test and demonstrate new technology that could lower the cost of energy production from floating wind.
The projects, each set to comprise two large offshore wind turbines, are planned to be installed at METCentre’s floating wind demonstration site off the coast of Karmøy in Rogaland.
The funding will be disbursed contingent upon the execution of the projects, with NOK 2 billion (around EUR 193 million) to be allocated to Fortius Offshore Wind and NOK 1.94 billion (around EUR 188 million) to Fram Wind Solutions.
The two demo projects won the competition for funding based on criteria including the amount of energy produced per krone of support, the potential for the technology to be replicated elsewhere, its climate footprint, its impact on biodiversity, and the project’s promise for achieving low costs in the future, Enova says.
