POLAND: A consortium of BPK Poznań, Biuro Projektów Kolejowych i Usług Inwestycyjnych and FONON has completed planning of the GSM-R radio network for the 120 km Warszawa Zachodnia – future airport – Łódź high speed line which is to be built under the Port Polska programme.
The work included identifying the locations for communications facilities, including radio masts, and specifying installation parameters such as the number of antennas required, their installation heights, transmission power and the frequency plan.
This involved developing a digital terrain model by simulating the proposed railway line in specialist computer software. The model was then used to simulate the propagation of radio waves across the GSM-R network, providing the basis for implementing GSM-R and, in the future, FRMCS network standards.
