Port Nelson produced a strong financial result in FY2026, with revenue rising 15% to NZ$96.3m and net profit after tax (NPAT) increasing 79% to NZ$12.7m.
The result was largely driven by a surge in whole log exports following the clean up from severe 2025 windthrow storm damage. Log exports surged 66% to a record 1.76m tonnes and helped pushed total port cargo throughput to 3.8m tonnes.
Port Nelson is an important port for wine, seafood and agricultural exports from the Marlborough region. In May 2026 the port welcomed the longest vessel to call at the port to date, the 264m 4,600 TEU Maersk Cap Jackson.
