Port of Gdańsk handled 65.2m tonnes of cargo in the first nine months of 2026, up 10.4% from 59.1m tonnes in the same period last year. Growth was driven mainly by general cargo, particularly containerised cargo. Coal and grain volumes also increased significantly.
General cargo throughput reached 23.5m tonnes from January to September, up 18.2% year-on-year. Containerised cargo accounted for 21.1m tonnes, an increase of 17.6%. In TEU terms, throughput rose by 21%, from just over 2m TEU to almost 2.5m TEU. General cargo was the port’s second-largest cargo group, accounting for more than 36% of total throughput.
Liquid fuels remained the largest cargo group, at 29.4m tonnes. This represented around 45% of total throughput and was broadly in line with the volume recorded in the same period last year.
Coal was the third-largest cargo group, with throughput rising by 36.5% to 6.7m tonnes. This reflects a broader increase in coal volumes at some of the European Union’s largest ports.
