The European Commission has said that Russian gas supplies to EU markets will not resume after Russia’s war against Ukraine ends.

Brussels reiterated that the ban on Russian gas imports will remain in effect regardless of sanctions or the end of the war.

Journalists asked the European Commission to comment on reports that the US and Russia are discussing the reopening of Nord Stream pipeline and the resumption of Russian gas flows into Europe following a peace agreement with Ukraine.

Asked by reporters last week about this matter, European Commission chief spokesperson Paula Pinho was clear in her answer: “This position has been stated very clearly several times recently by European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, including last week at the European Parliament’s plenary session and, before that, on the sidelines of the European Council meeting.”
