South Africa’s Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has commenced a SAR375 million (USD22.5 million) rehabilitation programme to upgrade road infrastructure at the port of Richards Bay. The programme focuses on Urania Road, Newark Road and Ventura Road, key transport corridors within the port that provide access to major terminals and operational facilities.
The works include pavement strengthening, road widening, concrete surfacing, drainage and stormwater improvements, road safety enhancements, and related infrastructure upgrades. Once completed, the project will improve road capacity and condition.
Works kicked off in October and are expected to take 18 months to complete. Richards Bay is an important bulk and breakbulk entry point to Sub-Saharan Africa.
